HELP DISASTER SURVIVORS
Hurricane Season is quickly approaching. We are already gathering items and
accepting donations to be prepared for upcoming emergencies and Terri has
been taking emergency training courses through FEMA. Below is the report
from our last trip, as well as a list of needed supplies.
We have just returned from our trip to Mississippi. What a learning experience!
The rain from Hurricane Rita limited the areas we were able to go to, but we
handed out supplies, volunteered with other ministries, and helped in any way
we could. We were blessed to meet "Takin it to the Streets," a ministry from St
Pete, and we learned so much from them. Throughout the trip, there were 2
major things God showed us.
First, the most effective ministry is the mobile ministry. When an organization
sets up in one place, people begin dropping off donations, and it often
becomes too overwhelming. Also, they are only able to reach the people that
can get to them. By staying mobile, we are able to get supplies to the people
and areas that need them. It is important to know where your donations are
going and what will be done with them.
Secondly, we must be better prepared for disaster relief. Scientist predict that
bad weather is going to continue and even worsen. The Bible has told us this
all along. When God gives us information, He does not intend for it to sit idle in
our hands. Like the parable of the 10 talents (Luke 19), we are expected to
use what God has given us. Through this trip, God has given us the desire to
be prepared for First Response Ministry. We are believing for the continued
donations that would allow us to have supplies, clothing, and finances to
respond immediately. The only way to teach people to rely on God rather than
the government, is to be the first one to meet their need. This opens a whole
new area of ministry as we are able to bless people as soon as they
experience disaster.
We are currently putting together kits that will be distributed to the people who
need them. For instance, $15.00 pays for a hygiene bag for 1 family, $25.00
covers a bag of baby supplies including diapers, bottles, dishes, pacifiers, oil,
towels, and more. $5.00 buys a new blanket. Every amount helps us to make
a difference in the lives of hurting people and opens the door to share the
gospel. Below we also have a list of individual items we are still collecting.
Financial donations can be marked "Disaster Relief" and sent to:
PO Box 11621
St. Petersburg, FL 33733
We truly appreciate all of your support. We could not do what we do without
you!
All donations are tax deductible and will be distributed to people who have been
effected by devastation.
